Rabbi Hirschfeld was born in Budapest Hungary. He is an ordained rabbi and cantor who has served egalitarian conservative synagogues for over 15 years as a rabbi and 30 years as a cantor. He most recently served as both at Howard Beach Judea Center in Queens (2011-2018) and Bay Ridge Jewish Center in Brooklyn (2008-2011) where he taught adult education, prepared bat/bar mitzvah students, and fulfilled all typical duties of a congregational rabbi. Rabbi Hirschfeld is passionate about Jewish and secular scholarship and enjoys sharing Jewish values and wisdom with congregants. He has officiated (as a rabbi) and performed (as a cantor) in leading synagogues in Europe and America, and is a composer of congregational and cantorial music. As a cantor, he studied with, Cantor David Fuchs, Benvenuto Finnelli (London), and Dr. Jenos Sipos (Budapest). Following the fall of Communism, Rabbi Hirschfeld spent three years supporting the revival of Jewish life and institutions throughout Hungary. Before beginning his career as a cantor and rabbi, Rabbi Hirschfeld was a business executive with extensive international experience at a senior corporate level. Rabbi Hirschfeld lives in Brooklyn and is planning to move upstate to be closer to the congregation.
