I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for being a part of the Temple Beth El community and having your support as this year’s President. We have an active, committed Board of Trustees. We have a lovely building. We have a growing list of members. So many things are great. The Strategic Planning Group is working to give us a new direction based on the surveys you have completed. The focus groups will have met by the time you read this, giving the Planners more information about building the community you want. Be alert. There will be changes. Often people don’t like change when it happens. We are all comfortable with how things have always been. But, to build a strong future will mean embracing some changes. We are totally supported by dues and contributions. Right now, our dues and contributions don’t cover our expenses. The past two years we have operated in the red. We must find a way to change that. Look for more information in your dues letter which will arrive sometime this summer. Another change is that we have signed a three-year contract with Rabbi George Hirschfeld. He will be starting in early September. The Ritual committee is meeting and discussing changes with Rabbi George. I invite you to come to gather at the Temple for services or social events and see what changes he brings to us. I am so grateful that we have a Jewish community in Oneonta. We have a long, vibrant past and have an opportunity right now to build a strong vibrant future. Let’s celebrate and honor our past and embrace this opportunity for change.
