It is my sad experience that many whose families turn to me and TBE upon their deaths have made no end of life or burial plans. This leaves survivors in the terrible position of having to make these arrangements, or struggle without them, at the same time as they are grieving the death of a loved one. This is an enormous burden to leave behind. To teach us how to prevent that situation, Steven Feuer, attorney-at-law, long-time TBE Board Member, head of our Cemetery Committee and all-around mensch, will lead a workshop for members and friends of Temple Beth El on Preparing for the End of Life, including matters such as health care proxies, wills, living wills, and burial plans, including information on acquiring a plot in TBE’s cemetery. The workshop will meet from 12:00 noon – 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 9th. Feel free to bring your meat-free and shellfish-free lunch.
We will celebrate Shabbat together on Friday, March 8 at 7:30 PM, and on Friday March 22 at 6:00 PM, (note the earlier start time) followed by Potluck. This service will include our traditional wacky Purim celebration, which this year will be “The Book of Lesther”, a gender-bending megillah adaptation that turns the story entirely on its head. Please let me know if you would like to participate in the spiel.
I hope that you will join us to create and share the warmth of our potluck community and to enjoy the companionship of being a part of it. RSVP’s for Potluck, along with the meat-free, shellfish-free dish that you bring, help us to make sure that we have enough food for everyone. Our Purim Potluck will include adult beverages in honor of Purim. Please bring the adult beverage of your choice to share. We are in need of more “potluck people” to participate in set-up and clean-up. Please do let Ken know, firstname.lastname@example.org, if you will be attending the potluck, what you will bring, and if you can help participate in setting up.
Shabbat Morning Torah Study will meet on Saturday, March 9 and 23. Coffee and Shmooze starts at 9:00 AM followed by Torah Study at 9:30 AM. In Torah Study we are reading the Book of Samuel. No previous knowledge is needed. Please note that this group is lively, opinionated, vociferous and at times argumentative. We have a lot of fun!!
Lunch and Learn will likewise meet on Saturday March 9 and 23. On March 23, we will shift our focus to a new spirituality program for adults, “Vetaher Libeinu” (Purify Our Hearts), which has been recently released by the Institute for Jewish Spirituality. We start lunch at noon, and begin our studies at 12:30. Please free to drop in to see what it’s all about, and bring a meat-free, shellfish-free lunch dish for yourself or to share. No previous knowledge is needed.
As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at email@example.com at any time.
Kol tuv (all the good), Rabbi Molly Karp
