Women’s Club News

Six women attended the June 3rd meeting for lunch and conversation. We decided that after the new schedule for Rabbi Karp is set, we will try to schedule Women’s Club meetings on a weekend when Rabbi Karp is not in town. We will also not schedule on the third Sunday to not conflict with the Men’s Club.

We discussed the possibility of doing some fund raising to help pay for a Cantor at the High Holy Days. We thought of musical events, silent auctions, craft shows, and regular auctions. After going around and around with many ideas and possibilities, we decided that the events would not raise much money compared to the intensity of time committed. We also felt the time frame was too short to get any of the ideas in place before September. We will continue as a social club.

Planning for next year, we discussed several books and will devote two meetings to book discussion. One will be a non-fiction selection by Ruth Gruber. The other will be a novel yet to be determined. We talked about other programs. If you are a member of TBE and have a talent, collection, or interest, you would like to share with our group please contact Stephanie.

The next Women’s Club meeting will be on Sunday, July 22 at 12:00 at TBE. Bring your own lunch. We will have a discussion of current topics surrounding the rise of anti-Semitism. We encourage people to bring a current news article which interests them from one of the Israeli news sites highlighted by Rabbi Karp in the last Shofar, or from Tablet magazine to support the discussion.

Lastly, the Women’s Club will hold a Women’s Club summer picnic at Upper Wilbur Park on Sunday, August 12. Women of TBE, please RSVP if you would like to attend this picnic or help with the set up and clean up.

The Women’s Club would like to encourage all Temple Beth El members to attend the summer picnic at Steve and Gail Feuer’s house on July 15.
