Jackie Zucker, a Berlin hustler and pool shark, is up to his ears in debt and is about to be thrown out by his wife Marlene. A telegram arrives informing them that his mother has died and left an inheritance. But there is a catch; he will have to observe ‘Shiva’ and reconcile with his estranged brother, Samuel, an orthodox Jew. With the two families under one roof and being observed by the Rabbi, Jackie’s only hope to get on top of his debts is to feign illness so he can sneak out to play in a high stakes pool tournament. Go for Zucker is an outrageous and fast paced comedy that hilariously highlights the collision of two cultures in modern day Berlin. This film skillfully juggles the divisions and contradictions of faith, sexuality and politics without singling out one more than the other. Award winning film Go for Zucker is said to be the first German Jewish comedy since World War II.
